Baltimore Stallions |
Baltimore Stallions (Baltimore,MD,USA) began as the CFL Colts in 1994 and played in the East Division before switching to the South Division in 1995. In 1996,their owners relocated the team to Montreal as a new re-incarnation of the Alouettes and a return to football in the city since 1987.
The team name was initially chosen as the CFL Colts as a way of drawing new fans to the game as Baltimore had been home to the original NFL Colts who had left in 1983. The NFL banned the CFL from using the name,as they owned the copyright, and therefore Stallions was chosen as the name.
They became the only American team to win the Grey Cup in 1995 (83rd).
