UNITED STATES FOOTBALL LEAGUE (USFL) kicked-off in April 2022 and in 2024, it merged with the XFL to form the United Football League. This was the fourth attempt to launch a game under this name with the previous times in 1945, 1983 (which lasted until 1985 and did not play its planned 1986 season) and 2010.
The USFL hosted 8 teams that played their games in Birmingham, AL in 2022 and then new hubs in Birmingham, Canton,OH, Detroit,MI and Memphis,TN for the 2023 seaosn.
The league was divided into two divisions (North and South). Each team played a ten-game schedule with no bye weeks, playing two games against each division rival (one home and one away) and one game against each team in the other division.
The Playoffs were made up of the top 2 teams per division, with division champion hosting the respective Division Championship, followed by the USFL Championship Game.
For the 2024 season, announced on the on 28 September 2023 the new merged UFL, the USFL's teams Birmingham Stallions, Memphis Showboats and the Michigan Panthers joining. Houston Gamblers were due to also join but were rebranded as the Houston Roughnecks.
