HEY XFLERS!

XFL was the 3rd incarnation of the league, in which it played 1 season in 2001 and part of a season in 2020 due to the Coronovirus Pandemic.

The XFL was made up of 8 teams, including 5 returning cities from the shortened 2020 season and 3 teams relocating to Las Vegas, Orlando and San Antonio.

Las Vegas and Orlando previously had teams in the 2001 XFL and San Antonio previously hosted a team in the Alliance of American Football (AAF) in 2019, another league that played a part season.

SEASONS

Seasons will run from February to April, with each team playing a ten-game regular season, and four progressing to the playoffs to crown a season champion. XFL has an agreement for broadcasting games in place up to 2027.

2024 SEASON

For the 2024 season, announced on the on 28 September 2023, the XFL merged with the USFL to form the United Football League (UFL) with the Arlington Renegades, DC Defenders and the San Antonio Brahmas joining. Houston Gamblers were due to also join but have been rebranded as the Houston Roughnecks.

XFL AND USFL ANNOUNCE INTENT TO MERGE

On 28 September 2023, it was officially confirmed that both leagues filed papers to merge. No further information was released except the intention to host season due to the fact that there is no guarantee that the merger would necessarily go ahead.
