The United Football League (UFL) is a professional American football high-level minor league which started play in March 2024. It was created following the merger of the latest incarnations of the XFL and United States Football League (USFL). It consists of eight teams, all of which were members of the XFL or USFL prior to the UFL's creation, concentrated in the Midwest and Southern United States.
Each team plays a ten-game schedule with no bye weeks, playing two games against each conference rival (one home and one away) and one game against each team in the other conference.
Dallas Renegades (previously Arlington Renegades from 2023 in the XFL up to the 2025 UFL season), Birmingham Stallions, DC Defenders, Houston Gamblers (previously called the Gamblers prior to joining the UFL as the Roughnecks), St. Louis Battlehawks and new teams Colombus Aviators, Louisville Kings and Orlando Storm. San Antonio Brahmas, Memphis Showboats and Michigan Panthers folded due to the UFL using smaller and more intimate stadiums and not having suitable alternatives in their respective cities.
Other cities mentioned in early reports for expansion included Boise, Idaho and Lexington, Kentucky but they either denied having heard from the league or stated they could not host games in 2026.
Conferences have been abolished to be a league of 8 teams with no divisions.
Playoffs have also been adjusted to be played by the top 4 in the league with the winners playing in the UFL Chmapionship Game.

The UFL retains retainer agreements with two dormant franchises: the XFL's Seattle Sea Dragons (Lumen Field) and Orlando Guardians (Camping World Stadium).
Though the UFL had initially planned to expand to 10 teams for 2026, League Commissioner Repole chose instead to keep the league at eight teams for 2026, with the intention to delay expansion to 2028 and have a 16-team league by 2035. So watch this space for more updates.
