West Division

The West Division was introduced for the 2025 BFL season and became part of the British Conference, along with the North Division and is made up of four teams of which Manchester Demons, Merseyside Centurions and Yorkshire Vikings previously played in the North Division. Teams are based in North-West England.

Division Champions and the next best team in the British Conference compete for a place in the British Conference Playoffs.

In 2028, Yorkshire Vikings will return to the North Division and be replaced by one expansion team, yet to be confirmed, to keep it at four teams.

Manchester, Liverpool and Sheffield are easily commutable between each other, therefore to keep this in mind, the expansion team will need to be within these distances which makes Blackpool the ideal candidate.

Team Names

Teams adhere to the Team Rules.

Manchester Demons are named as an alternative name to Manchester United who are nicknamed the Red Devils and also partially with the Manchester based defunct rugby league team Salford Reds and its replacement the active Rugby League team Salford RLFC. Its logo is inspired by the San Francisco Demons (XFL) team that played in 2001 only. Manchester forms part of the Greater Manchester Built-up Area which is the second most populous conurbation in the United Kingdom after the Greater London Built-up Area.

Merseyside Centurions are named after a defunct American Football league team of the same name that played from 1987-1991. Its logo is inspired by the Cologne Centurions (NFL Europe) team that played from 2004-2007 but unrelated to the relaunched but since defunct team of the same name that played in the European League of Football from 2021-2025. The Centurions play in Liverpool and their colours are based on its tenants Liverpool FC.

Sheffield Surge are inspired by the Sacramento Surge WLAF team that played from 1991-1992 and its logo is a revised modern version of original Surge logo using the colours of the Sheffield Eagles.

Yorkshire Vikings nickname relates to the Vikings invasion when the region, now called Yorkshire, was referred to as Yorkvik and pays homage to this historic region. At the time of inception with the 2015 BFL season, there was a County Cricket Championship team called the Yorkshire Vikings but this name was dropped in 2025. Yorkshire covers all regions not prepresented by Humberside and Sheffield.
