1. STANDINGS
2025 BFL Season, and subsequent seasons, will choose its BFL teams' NFL affiliates will be chosen by way of the previous NFL season's playoffs teams made up of 7 NFL teams per AFC & NFC Conferences plus the next best team outside of the Playoffs teams to make up 8 per Conference. Teams are then seeded regardless of Division Champions. Prior to 2025, the top 6 NFL affiliates were chosen by way of their overall record and not by using the NFL's system which includes division champions.
Final standings are announced following NFL Week 11 where overall records of NFL affiliates are used which includes tie-breakers and as such, NP (Net Points) are discontinued, last used for the 2024 BFL Season. Teams that have a tie, but no other NFL Affiliate has a tie, are given an automatic win. However, if two or more affiliates have a tie then they will be ranked higher in the final standings if one of those is a BFL division chammpion. So far there has only ever been one NFL affiliate per season that has had a tie in 2021 & 2025 and therefore received a win.
2 PLAYOFFS
2.1 PLAYOFF GAMES
- The final full time score for each team is the primary score for the game.
- If this results in a tie, then each quarter score by each team is added as overtime until an outright winner is found. Therefore a maximum total of 4 OTs for regular playing plus any additional OT that is applied if that game remains as a tie.
- If this still results in a tie, then the very first score (touchdown or field goal or safety) by each team is added as overtime and this procedure will be added until no more scores are available for that week and ultimately this should result in an outright winner. This means that there is no limit as to how many overtime scores are used to break the tie.
- If the tie still cannot be broken, then Rule 1.3 is repeated as many times as possible until there is an outright winner.
- There has only been one game, 2023 BFL Championship Game where there was a tie at the end of regular time. At the end of the 4th quarter, both teams were drawn 33-33, therefore both teams' 1st quarter points were used to decide OT - Caledonian Knights (3) & Sussex Pirates (7) which resulted in the Pirates winning 40-36.
2.2 BYE WEEKS DURING THE PLAYOFFS
Since the 2021 BFL Season, as the NFL expanded its season to a 17 game/18 week season and therefore, unlike the 2020 season, there will be the potential of bye weeks during the BFL Playoffs.
- BFL Playoffs follow the NFL Regular Season Weeks 12-14 (14-16 in 2020-2024).
- Team(s) that have a bye week during the playoffs, will use their previous weeks score or previously played week for the score.
- Division Champions no longer automatically get a bye week but are given one of the higher seeds to host one of the Conference Semi-Finals.

NFL Affiliates will be announced following the 2025 NFL Season by Week 18 on January 7th 2026 or as and when Playoffs teams are announced i.e. if Buffalo Bills qualify as the highest team in the alphabet then they will be affiliated with the Caledonian Knights.
The schedule will be released in May 2026 and will be subject to change and amended as appropriate once BFL Playoffs teams have been announced and if NFL Bye Weeks are applicable.

2025 SEASON NOTES
Bandits' NFL Affiliate Packers drew with the Cowboys (who were not affiliated) and therefore picked up a win in Week 4, and as such finished as the 4th seed due to this win.
There were bye weeks for the 2025 BFL Playoffs in NFL Week 12, for British Conference teams only, therefore their NFL Week 11 result were used for these games.
