2025 BFL Season is the first season in which the BFL teams' NFL affiliates will be chosen by way of the 7 NFL Playoffs teams per AFC & NFC Conferences and the next best team outside of the Playoffs teams to make up 8 per Conference. Division Champions now host the individual Conference Semi-Finals against the next best seeded teams.
Final standings are announced following NFL Week 11 for the 2025 season onwards.
From 2015-2024, the top 6 NFL affiliates were chosen by way of their overall record and not by using the NFL's system which includes division champions.
Overall records of NFL affiliates are used at the end of Week 11 which includes tie-breakers and as such, NP (Net Points) are no longer used to break ties.
Special rules used to decide playoff games include the following two distinct rules:
1. PLAYOFF GAME SCORING
- The final full time score for each team is the primary score for the game.
- If this results in a tie, then each quarter score by each team is added as overtime until an outright winner is found. Therefore a maximum total of 4 OTs.
- If this still results in a tie, then the very first score (touchdown or field goal or safety) by each team is added as overtime and this procedure will be added until no more scores are available for that week and ultimately this should result in an outright winner. This means that there is no limit as to how many overtime scores are used to break the tie.
- If the tie still cannot be broken, then Rule 4.3 is repeated as many times until the tie is broken.
2. BYE WEEKS DURING THE PLAYOFFS (IF APPLICABLE)
Since the 2021 BFL Season, since the NFL has expanded to a 17 game/18 week season and therefore, unlike the 2020 season, there will be the potential of bye weeks during
the playoffs.
- BFL Playoffs follow the NFL Regular Season Weeks 12-14 (14-16 in 2020-2024).
- Week 14 will be the sole bye week during the BFL playoffs. Team(s) that have a bye week during the playoffs, will use their Week 13 score or previously played week for the score.
- Division Champions no longer automatically get a bye week but instead host the Conference Semi-Finals.
- Each team, with a bye week, will use their previous week's score for that week.

2021 BFL SEASON WEEK 10: Due to BFL Rules, Tyneside Mariners got the win because their NFL affiliate Pittsburgh Steelers drew in their Week 10 game but no other NFL affiliate drew in their games.
2024 North Division Semi-Final - CALEDONIAN KNIGHTS (affiliated with the Baltimore Ravens) had a bye week in Week 14 so will automatically use their Week 13 (01 December) result.
