The CFL returned to 9 teams as the Ottawa Rough Riders folded after having been a team since 1896 and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers returned to the East Division.
The top 3 teams per division qualify for the playoffs with the Division Champions hosting the division final. If the 4th placed team with a better record than the 3rd place team in the other division can take their place in the corresponding division's playoffs.
Due to the change, all 4 West Division teams qualified and the BC Lions took the 3rd place in the East playoffs.
