(1991-1992;1995-2007)

WLAF TEAMS

Teams were based in North America including Canada and Europe. Raleigh-Durham Skyhawks were replaced by Ohio Glory, having not won a single game, for the 1992 season.

The league went on hiatus following the 1992 season.

RETURN OF THE LEAGUE

WLAF returned in 1995, and was founded by former members of the WLAF (Barcelona Dragons, Frankfurt Galaxy & London Monarchs) and 3 new teams Amsterdam Admirals, Rhein Fire & Scottish Claymores (playing in both Glasgow and Edinburgh).

In 1998, the league was rebranded as NFL Europe League. That same year, England Monarchs folded and became the Berlin Thunder with F.C. Barcelona Dragons replaced by Cologne Centurions in 2004 and Scottish Claymores by Hamburg Sea Devils in 2005.

The following year it was rebranded as NFL Europa. But in 2007, the NFL closed the league as it was losing $30 million per season.

BRITISH FOOTBALL LEAGUE

BFL was introduced in 2015 by Alex Thomas, administrator of AMT GRIDIRON, and he added former WLAF/NFL Eurpopa teams (Centurions, Claymores, Knights, Monarchs and Thunder) to this new league.
